Use the specialty comparison on the following page to compare the scale of resident-generated visits across the trade area. These modeled estimates describe historical office-based and hospital outpatient physician use, including care received outside the area. They do not measure inpatient stays, emergency-department visits, every service a specialty may provide, unmet need, available physician capacity, or the visit volume a new practice could capture.

Modeled resident-generated historical use, wherever care occurs; these are not observed local visits, unmet clinical need, or projected practice volumes. Whole block groups intersecting each radius are included in full, so boundary populations extend beyond the circle. Radii overlap and must not be added. Specialty visit counts may overlap and should not be summed into a unique-visit total.

Turn a population view of specialty demand into a focused conversation about your next market, location, or service.
Use estimated annual specialty visits to compare the scale of resident-generated use around candidate sites. Keep geography, source periods, and included services consistent.
Review which specialties generate the most visits, then consider how that mix aligns with your service strategy, referral relationships, and delivery model.
Population shows where residents live. Total visits describe the scale of expected use. Visits per 1,000 residents reveal differences in utilization relative to population size.
Bring in provider capacity, patient travel, access, referrals, and operating economics. Use these together to evaluate the portion of demand an organization could serve.
Visits include repeat care. Annual visits count encounters, rather than unique patients or people with a condition. A resident can generate visits in several specialties.
Radii overlap. The smaller areas sit within the larger ones. Compare them rather than adding their totals. Whole intersecting block groups extend beyond each circle.
Demand starts with residents. Estimates include care received outside the trade area. Assess achievable volume with explicit assumptions about patient flows, capacity, and capture.
Curis helps you understand yours.
Curis applies modeled specialty-use relationships to local population profiles to estimate the specialty visits residents generate. Explore differences across neighborhoods, compare potential locations, and bring a consistent population perspective to healthcare real estate and service planning.
A consistent framework for comparing expected specialty utilization across markets and service areas.
Explore patterns across block groups and defined trade areas, informed by the population living there.
Connect population demand with your market knowledge, provider information, and organizational priorities.
We analyze healthcare survey data weighted to statistically represent the U.S. civilian, noninstitutionalized population. Individual-level records allow us to examine how specialty use varies with age, recorded sex, race and ethnicity, region, and income. The current estimates cover office-based and hospital outpatient physician visits across 25 specialty categories. We apply the modeled relationships to the population profile of a defined geography.
Use the results alongside local evidence. Modeled historical utilization does not directly measure unmet clinical need or predict practice revenue, market share, or site viability.
